A new report has just revealed that 40% of home sales to foreign buyers in Spain last year were in the Costa Blanca. We take a look into what makes the 200km southeastern coast so exceedingly popular with international buyers.

The other areas that make up the report include the Costa del Sol (24%), Balearics (%). Costa de Valencia (10%), Costa Calida (9%), and Costa Brava (6%). This data was collected by the Association of Real Estate Developers of the Province and Spain’s Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

Well, data provided by Spain’s National Statistics Institute tells us that 75,263 Brits live in the Alicante province of the Costa Blanca. In fact, UK buyers are the most popular buyers in Spain.

Why do Brits love Spain so?

The first answer has to be the glorious weather. Not to mention the sandy beaches, lower cost of living (check out Your Overseas Home’s revealing index) and delicious food.

Despite the pandemic, which obviously put a halt to those the number of buyers emigrating or moving overseas, Britain still remains the number one international buyer in Spain. In fact, in 2022, the UK was the largest international market with a growth rate of 68%.

There are an astonishing 170 beaches along the Blanca coast. The majority of them are sandy beaches and a lot actually have Blue Flag accreditation, which means they meet the highest standards for quality control.

The Costa Blanca is shielded by a curtain of mountains to the north, which run parallel with the sea. Towards the beaches, they form cliffs, making a beautiful backdrop to the seafront.

There are verdant valleys in the Costa Blanca, from vineyards to orchard tree fields to almond trees and fruit fields.

Towards the coast, there are natural caves formed by mother nature herself, where the cliffs part. They are often visited using ladders but can be extremely dangerous, without caution.
