French property remains a popular choice with Brits looking to get away for a relaxing break, it has been claimed.

Short break destinations, including those to French property, represent a cost-effective choice for Brits abroad, which can mean they don’t have to scrimp on other holiday treats, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).

Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for Abta, said: "For short breaks, France and Spain are popular for obvious reasons […] [and] are the most popular due to sheer volume."

Recent research from Visa Europe found that 83 per cent of Brits polled for a survey intend to take between one and five short breaks this year, with the most popular destinations including France, Spain and the USA.

French property owners will also be pleased to know the survey also showed that 21 per cent of UK residents are planning to take more holidays this year than they did in 2008.
