For the best choice of property next to a golf course, Spain dominates the top of the leaderboard. And if a view across 18 holes isn’t enough, we’ve found five Spanish resorts where residents have at least 36 holes on their doorstep…

PGA Catalunya Resort, Costa Brava
Set amongst rolling woodland in the scenic heart of Catalonia, the two championship golf courses at PGA Catalunya (main picture), Stadium and Tour, are regularly rated amongst the finest not only in Spain but also Europe. Low-density villa plots integrated discreetly around the fairways and between the trees make up most of the property offering there, but there is also a small selection of townhouse/terraced and apartment developments.

Besides golf, on-site amenities include two boutique hotels, a choice of bars and restaurants, spa and fitness centre, tennis and trails for cycling. The medieval city of Girona, with its historic centre and Michelin-star dining, is a few minutes’ drive. Barcelona and the Pyrenees are around an hour and the picturesque beaches of the Costa Brava are less than 30 minutes away.

Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort, Costa del Sol
Views help make Alcaidesa stand out from other resorts. Golfers are treated to panoramas of North Africa across the sparkling Med, as well as the unmistakable Rock of Gibraltar, 10 minutes’ down the coast. Occupying a stunning site in the western tip of the Costa del Sol, golf at Alcaidesa includes the only links course in southern Europe, with its second set of 18 holes being a heathland course.

The resort offers access to kilometres of unspoilt beaches, as well as a range of restaurants, hotels and amenities, spread amongst its small communities of luxury apartment complexes, as well as townhouses and villas, nearly all with glorious sea views!

La Manga Club, Murcia
Now in its 50th decade, La Manga Club is one of Spain’s first and most famous golf and leisure resorts. Nestled between the Mar Menor lagoon and the Mediterranean, its 1,400-acre site includes not two, but three championship golf courses. A long-time favourite with sports stars and Spanish royalty, its golf club recently assumed ‘royal’ status.

Complementing its golf, the resort has a tennis centre with 28 courts, eight FIFA-approved football pitches, a 2,000-sq-metre Spa and Fitness Centre, a 5-star hotel where Prince Felipe has stayed and more than 20 bars and restaurants.

Dotted amongst the golf courses and 3,000 palm trees are circa 37 communities, accommodating more than 2,000 residences, including luxury villas and apartments.

La Cala, Costa del Sol
Less than an hour from landing at Málaga Airport, homeowners at La Cala can be teeing off under the Costa del Sol sunshine – and they can pick between one of three courses, namely the America, Asia, or slightly easier Europa.

Situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas with breath-taking views of the countryside and the distant Mediterranean, the resort’s on-site amenities include a four-star hotel, fitness centre and spa, football pitch, tennis and squash, four restaurants and multiple bars.

All types of property are available within established developments dotted around the courses, with new apartment and townhouses projects available now.

Arabella Golf, Mallorca
Spain’s largest golf resort on paper with a total of 63 holes, Arabella Golf sits in one of Mallorca’s most exclusive residential areas, Son Vida. Golf there is split between three championship courses, namely the landmark Golf Son Vida course, as well as Golf Son Muntaner and Golf Son Quint, plus the nine-hole Golf Son Quint pitch & putt. There is a shuttle bus running between them all.

Amongst the multi-million-euro villas dotted on the hillsides looking over the lush fairways and out across Palma Bay are a selection of luxury hotels and high-end restaurants. The bright lights of Palma city, with its historic centre and charming marina and waterfront, is just five minutes away.
