Those looking to buy into the Italy property market could find investments on the island of Sicily being boosted by the growth of golf tourism, it has been stated.

The sport has been given a head start by the establishment of the Il Picciolo course at the Palmerston Etna resort on the island, the Daily Telegraph reports.

It occupies a location with outstanding views of Mount Etna and was until recently the only such resort on the island, but a second has just opened near the cathedral town of Cefalu and three more are being built or planned, the paper added.

Such developments could help increase the number of tourists coming to the island, which may help boost this sector of the Italy property market.

Sport lovers may also be attracted to the island for a number of other reasons, such as sailing.

The 505 class World Sailing Championships start today at Palermo, with the contest featuring no fewer than 124 boats from 12 different countries, Sail World reports.
