Many people will look to buy into French property if the UK economy gets worse because it is a simple and secure investment, it has been stated.

Co-founder of the property website creme-de-languedoc.com Alex Charles told the Times: "If the UK sinks into a recession then investors will look to France for a safe investment; it is low risk because of the legal framework."

Mr Charles said that del the Languedoc region has "traditionally" outperformed the rest of the country, although some buyers are reigning in their spending because of the economic situation.

Languedoc has been identified by Sextant Properties as one of the regions that is likely to attract a large number of British buyers during the autumn.

The firm said that the region typically offers stone houses and villas, with its attractions including its cuisine and the varied scenery that comes from the region being located between the Cote D’Azur and the Pyrenees.
