It’s Ryder Cup year, which means Europe’s best golfers have teamed up to take on the USA, this time in France. In a nod to the famous biennial competition, we pick four affordable homes beside the fairway in four popular golf destinations on both sides of the Atlantic…

Central Florida
Golfers will feel immediately at home at this villa located in the Highlands Reserve community in Davenport. It’s typical of the standard of golf home available within the famous ‘Golden Triangle’ area of central Florida, where homeowners also have easy access to Orlando’s theme parks – this villa is less than 15 minutes’ drive from Disney.

Coming fully furnished and with its own pool, the five-bedroom property backs directly on to Highland Reserve’s championship course, offering views across the fairways designed by Mike Dasher. Other amenities within the community include a clubhouse, children’s play area, restaurant, tennis and a communal pool. There are further shops and restaurants within walking distance at the nearby Berry Town Center.

Highlands Reserve stands out for being in an elevated position and having picturesque undulating scenery, which includes orange groves and pine woods. Its location means there are dozens of other golf courses within a short drive. The community is zoned for short-term rentals, which means owners can rent out to holidaymakers to help cover running costs.

Portugal’s Algarve
The Algarve is an internationally acclaimed golf destination, where the great choice of championship courses together with the balmy climate and pretty beach resorts attract increasing numbers of tourists all year round.
Most of the region’s best-known courses – and luxury fairway homes – are within the famous ‘Golden Triangle’, an area that comprises the upmarket resorts of Vale do Lobo, with two courses, Quinta do Lago, with three courses, and Vilamoura, Europe’s largest single residential tourist community with five courses.

However, there are plenty of other more affordable and equally exciting golf home options further along the coast. Just outside the town of Lagos is the established resort of Boavista Golf & Spa. Complementing the championship course, there are a spa and gym, children’s play areas, tennis and football facilities and, of course, a clubhouse with a restaurant, lounge and bar. This ground-floor two-bedroom apartment at Boavista comes with fabulous views over the 16th fairway reaching as far as Lagos.

Spain’s Costa del Sol
Boasting more than 70 courses, nowhere in Europe, arguably the world, can match the Costa del Sol when it comes to facilities and options for golfers. Little wonder it also known as the Costa del Golf. And like the Algarve, the mild winters and lively beach resorts add to the region’s appeal.

A landmark golf community in the Costa del Sol is La Cala Resort in Mijas. Incorporating three championship courses and a par-three course, it includes 60 holes of golf. In addition, there are professional football training facilities, a luxury hotel, a clubhouse and a choice of all types of front-line property.

One of La Cala’s newest developments is Horizon Golf, located next to the La Cala Club, hotel, spa and restaurants. It includes luxury apartments and townhouses finished to a high standard and overlooking the resort’s most established course. This is one of the available townhouses, which has three bedrooms, a solarium with panoramic views and access to a shared pool.

Belek in Turkey
A rising star on the global golf scene, Belek on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast combines championship golf courses with beach holidays, luxury accommodation and affordable new property. Within a long stretch of coastline, the resort now has at least 15 golf courses, boasts more than 50 five-star hotels.

In recent years, Turkey has been ranked in the top five of the world’s most popular golf tourism destinations, after Spain, Portugal and Scotland. This is thanks largely to Belek, which is just 30 minutes’ drive from the international airport at Antalya and is establishing itself as a destination on the professional golf tour. Notable courses there include the Montgomerie Maxx Royal Club, National Golf Club and Carya Golf Club. Golf property in Belek tends to be in small developments a short walk or drive from the courses, and, like this four-bedroom property, represents good value for money.
