Getting to a second home in Spain is set to get easier for Brits in 2017, with a raft of new flights being launched to the Costas.

The new routes couldn’t come soon enough, given Spain enjoyed a record year for foreign tourists in 2016 and is comfortably the world’s third most visited country. The country attracted a staggering 75.3 million international visitors last year, 9.9 per cent more than during 2015.

“Extra flights are especially beneficial to British owners who rent out their Spanish home,” said Elaine Ferguson, Head of the Resource Centre at the Overseas Guides Company. “Good flight connections and short transfer times put you at an advantage when letting your home in the sun and destinations such as the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol are hard to beat for that.”

British Airways is bringing Murcia and the southern Costa Blanca closer to the UK with a twice weekly London Heathrow flight to Murcia’s San Javier airport, kicking off on 28th March. Just 25 minutes’ drive from San Javier in the friendly Costa Blanca resort of Punta Prima is the new beachfront development of La Recoleta, where two and three-bedroom apartments with private terraces and Mediterranean views are waiting to be snapped up. Other airlines adding new UK flights include budget Spanish airline Vueling, which has introduced a major expansion in passenger capacity on flights from Cardiff airport for the summer season. Following strong demand some 190,812 seats are now on sale on flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga and Palma between April and October.

Meanwhile, Thomas Cook is introducing new flights to Malaga from Manchester Airport from January 2017. Malaga is the gateway to the Costa del Sol, home to famous resorts such as Marbella, Benalmadena, Puerto Banus and Fuengirola, and one of the world’s golfing hot spots. This two-bedroom penthouse apartment is in a prime beachfront location in Fuengirola – could you imagine waking up to a view like that?

Other flights soon to be launched to Spain include easyJet’s new route from Luton to Valencia from February 2017 and Ryanair’s additional routes from Glasgow, namely four weekly flights to Malaga and three weekly flights to Alicante.
