Join author and TV personality Charles Metcalfe at the ‘Living in Portugal – Why Buy Now?’ event on Thursday, 1 May 2014 in London. Discover a variety of prestigious resorts, enjoy specialty Portuguese food and wine and receive independent advice from experts on tax, visas and finance.

Portugal…a long-time favourite for UK buyers and tourists alike, who appreciate the country’s warm climate, stunning beaches, award-winning regional wine and food produce as well as the vast variety of sporting facilities; particularly water sports and, of course, golf. Think that sums up all aspects of Portugal? Think again!

If you have previously considered buying a property in Portugal, then now may be the best time to do so. Latest figures released by the OECD (The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) suggest that Portugal’s property market is now more affordable than any other Mediterranean state, making it a top destination for overseas property buyers. Equally optimistic is the forecast in growing tourist arrivals, expected to hit the 16.3 million mark by 2023, an increase of two per cent per annum*.

Smart investors have also taken advantage of the favourable exchange rate against the Euro and the country’s tax regime that provides high-earning foreigners with a fixed tax rate of 20 per cent on personal earnings income for the first 10 years, after registering for Non-Habitual Resident Status. Meanwhile, retirees will find the 10-year tax exemption on their pension attractive.

Pedro Fontainhas, Executive Director of APR (Association of Portuguese Resorts) comments: “It is an ideal time to think about buying a property in Portugal. As prices are still very competitive at this stage, many buyers realise the investment opportunities this market holds. Our event is a perfect platform for property buyers who are either looking for a holiday, retirement or permanent home in Portugal.”

To inform interested buyers about the latest government initiatives, the APR has teamed up with Turismo de Portugal to host the exclusive ‘Living in Portugal – Why Buy Now?’ event on Thursday, 1 May 2014, which is supported by COMPETE (Operational Programme of Competitiveness Factors) and is co-financed by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
