When Anders Esper Larsen, who works at Bupa International’s Medical Centre in Copenhagen, received a distress call from a customer half-way down Mount Everest, he knew it wasn’t going to be a normal day.

The expedition leader had fallen over 200m down the mountain. Suffering from exhaustion and fatigue, the climber was unable to make it back down to basecamp. Because the climber was covered by Bupa, Anders was able to arrange an emergency evacuation from the mountainside and a subsequent brain scan at a specialist hospital in Kathmandu.

Obviously it’s not just climbers scaling Everest who need to think about health insurance.
