Spring 2013 sees the introduction of a raft of new flights to Alicante, which will make travelling to property in the Costa Blanca easier and increase the destination’s appeal to foreign holidaymakers looking for an accessible rental property.

Budget airline Ryanair announced in February it was re-introducing 17 routes to Alicante, including flights to Bournemouth in the UK, as well as airports in France, Poland, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Finland and Sweden. Meanwhile, low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle continues with plans to open a base in Alicante from where it will launch routes to 20 airports across Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the UK.

“Not to forget British Airways is starting a new route to Alicante from Gatwick at the end of March too,” added Kieran Byrne, MD of leading estate agency HomeEspaña. “These new routes combined with the existing services offered by easyJet, Thomson, FlyThomasCook, Monarch and Flybe make the Costa Blanca very accessible.”

Anyone researching property in the Costa Blanca shouldn’t forget that the northern half, home to the desirable resorts of Moraira and Jávea, is also accessible via Valencia airport to the north, while the southern half of the Costa Blanca, home to Torrevieja, Cabo Roig and Villamartin, can be reached by flying to Murcia (San Javier) airport to the south.

Total passenger numbers at Alicante airport are predicted to be higher during 2013 compared with 2012. Already in January figures were 1.8 per cent up on the same month last year.
