Spain remains by far the most popular location for UK buyers looking to purchase abroad, a property agent has said.

Director of Seek & Buy Properties Overseas Alan Bonner, whose firm switched from specialising in UK homes to concentrating on the overseas market five years ago, told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "We are finding that at least 50 per cent of enquiries are still for Spain."

Portugal was among the other countries where there has been a rise in interest, he noted.

Mr Bonner said the market for Spanish property is being boosted by people seeking bargains and the improvement in the value of the pound against the euro, while fractional ownership is proving to be increasingly popular.

Now is a good time to buy in Spain, the Daily Telegraph stated last week.

It quoted Miranda John, of mortgage broker Savills Private Finance, who advised that having a euro mortgage could be beneficial as improvements in the value of sterling will automatically make such a loan cheaper.
