Sundowners on the roof terrace of their Spanish home will taste especially sweet to Andy and Vicky Radhanauth this year, thanks to the savings the couple made by using a currency exchange specialist when buying their property last September.

The Radhanauths, from Horsham in West Sussex, used Smart Currency Exchange to send around €60,000 to Spain to purchase their two-bedroom apartment in Cabo Roig in the Costa Blanca. But it was only after a conversation with their neighbour that they discovered firms like Smart Currency Exchange existed, let alone could save them serious money by offering exchange rates that are 2-4 per cent better than any high street bank.

“It was our friend Richard next door who suggested using a currency exchange specialist,” said Andy. “Chatting over our usual glass or two of wine, he mentioned how currency firms are by far the best way to send money abroad, recommending Smart as one with a proven track record and excellent level of service – which he’s personally experienced and been very satisfied with. To be honest, it had never even crossed our minds that there was another way to send euros to Spain, other than by asking our UK bank to do it, or doing it via on-line banking. So we’re glad we found out about Smart, as saving around £1,000 through their exchange rates combined with the fast service they gave us were an unexpected bonus and made the fun of buying in Spain even greater.”

Andy and Vicky have two teenage children, Thomas and Ana, so are looking forward to family holidays at their Spanish property during 2013, as well as last-minute weekend breaks. Their apartment is a 10-15 minute walk from the beach, and bars and restaurants. Getting there is easy thanks to the choice of regular flights to Alicante and Murcia from Gatwick, which is just 25 minutes from the Radhanauths’ family home.

“We’ll definitely use Smart again if we need to send more money to Spain, or repatriate funds to the UK, and would recommend them to friends,” adds Andy. “We owe Richard a glass or two of Rioja for his tip, but the deal is he has to come to Spain to have them, so I look forward to toasting our new place with him on the roof terrace there, when he can get a few days off work…”
