We have a property on Rhodes which we let out during the holiday season. Originally we were told that the EOT licence did not currently apply on Rhodes but it would seem that now the authorities are insisting on a licence for villas and privately owned apartments. Do you know anything about these licences?

As far as I know, it has been compulsory countrywide for prospective short term rental property owners to be in possession of an EOT licence. In our free downloadable guide we reference the licence repeatedly – it is a means for the Greek government to raise funds and I can’t see them missing out on that opportunity on Rhodes alone!

All businesses in Greece need to be licensed in order to operate legally. Renting out property on a short term basis is classed as a business and a licence (EOT) is required. You have to declare income from rentals and it is generally charged at 15 per cent.

I visited Rhodes for the first time last year and absolutely loved it. I am returning to the island sometime next year – my very best friend and I are going on a sentimental journey to Greece together – we were last there together in the late 60s so it’s about time!
