Spain’s Costa Blanca is looking forward to a bumper 2013 and welcoming more foreign visitors, from both the UK and Europe, following the launch of new flights to the region.

As proof that the Costa Blanca’s sandy beaches, sunshine and affordable lifestyle continue to attract an increasing number of British people, British Airways re-introduced its Heathrow service to Alicante at the end of October, the principal airport on the Costa Blanca.

“BA’s new three-times-a-week service shows that despite the doom and gloom news about Spain’s economy, confidence in the Costa Blanca as a holiday home destination remains stronger than ever,” said Kieran Byrne, managing director of leading agency HomeEspaña, which sells property within easy reach of Alicante airport.

“More encouraging is that BA will be launching 17 flights a week to Alicante from Gatwick at the end of March in 2013, increasing this to 21 flights a week for July, August and September. Our clients in the south of the UK will certainly welcome the news.”

Meanwhile, the second largest airline in Scandinavia, Norwegian Air Shuttle, is setting up new bases at London Gatwick and Alicante. The low-cost carrier is offering flights between the two airports, but more importantly its new routes will connect numerous airports in Scandinavia with the Costa Blanca.

“Norwegians are big fans of the Costa Blanca and make up one of the largest groups of buyers right now,” added Byrne of HomeEspaña. “As well as the low prices, the currency differentiation makes buying here especially attractive to Norwegians right now. Looking at the bigger picture, these extra flights will make the Costa Blanca even more appealing to second home buyers, including those who intend to rent out their property, or people coming to retire here, who will take comfort knowing flights connecting them with family and friends back in the UK, or elsewhere, are very frequent and year-round.”

Alicante is one of the easiest resorts in Europe to get to from the UK. As well as BA and Norwegian Air Shuttle, flights there from London and UK regional airports are operated by Easyjet, Thomson, FlyThomasCook, Ryanair, Jet2, Monarch and Flybe.
