The magical ingredients of guaranteed sunshine, easy access to sandy beaches and friendly communities, all of which are unaffected by Portugal’s economic problems, are attracting British house-hunters back to the Algarve.

And today’s buyers have a huge selection of discounted properties to choose from.

Proof of the Algarve’s popularity is the recent success of Algarve based agency Ideal Homes Portugal at the recent A Place in the Sun Live property exhibition held in Birmingham at the end of September.

Said Chris White, director of Ideal Homes Portugal, which were prominent within the exhibition’s dedicated Portuguese Pavilion: “Our target for the weekend of A Place in the Sun Live was to arrange for ten people to book inspection trips with us. We ended the event with 14 people confirming to come and see us at our office in Albufeira. Needless to say, we’re excited about welcoming these clients to the Algarve, carefully matching their requirements to a property in their preferred resort and, when the time comes, assisting them in every way possible to help them complete their purchase successfully.”

Properties in and around the resort of Lagos, in the western Algarve, were especially popular at the exhibition. “In particular, a development where we are selling high-spec apartments on Porto do Mos beach discounted by €200,000 turned a few heads,” added Chris White of Ideal Homes Portugal. “This particular development really is special. The units are being sold at reduced pre-construction prices. The two-bedroom apartments will have all mod cons and facilities on the development will include a Spa and health club, with indoor and outdoor pools, Jacuzzis, and a gym and sauna.”

Another Ideal Homes Portugal promotion, which was also popular at A Place in the Sun Live, is the availability of 100 per cent finance with the purchase of two- and three-bedroom apartments on a new complex within walking distance of Lagos’s town-centre and marina, where prices start at €195,000 and include buying costs. The complex’s proximity to Lagos makes it suitable for year-round living and apartments there come furnished and with estimated rental returns of €12,000-€18,000 a year.

Ideal Homes Portugal offers subsidised inspection trips to the Algarve. “Our organised trips cost just £99 for a couple,” said Chris White of Ideal Homes Portugal. “That includes return flights from the UK, transfers and accommodation, a tour of properties in the area and a full explanation of the buying process, with the offer of legal and finance advice and a presentation on managing your property for rentals.”
