Having already discussed the possibility of running a B&B, when someone suggested they change their plans to the south of France, they were quickly swayed. Here they tell us about how they set up their successful gite business and realised their dream…

John tells us, “We loved the area even when we were back in the UK and we recognised that there was great potential to create or buy an existing business there due to the amount of activities and history in the region. We looked at existing businesses because we didn’t want to clash with others or overcrowd the village”.

Kathryn elaborated on how they went about the search and how long it took to find the perfect spot: “It took us two years to find the property with the help of a family friend who used to research on our behalf and then contact us when she had a bunch for us to fly over and look at.”

We asked John and Kathryn what their top tips would be for people looking to set up their own gite business in France, “Make sure that the property has good access to amenities. Research your competitors because the last thing that you want to do is flood the market. Look at what they do and try and do something different”.

Having spoken to John and Kathryn the FranceBuyingGuide.com decided to take a look at examples of gites on the market and we came across this beautiful business opportunity near Verteillac in the Dordogne.
