Following on from the highly successful launch of TAP Portugal’s Manchester service last year, the airline has announced that they will be commencing seven non-stop flights a week from the city to Lisbon as of October 28 2012.

TAP Portugal is Manchester’s only scheduled carrier offering direct flights to Lisbon. Flights will leave daily at 11:10am.

José Moreira, TAP Portugal’s UK Sales Manager said: “Having successfully launched our new service last summer, we are very happy with the results to date. We will add a daily flight this winter and intend to add further frequencies next summer to reflect the increased demand we are experiencing not only to Portugal but beyond to Brazil and Africa.”

Good news for those who pack light – the full service airline will be offering one piece of baggage of 23kg free of charge in economy and two pieces of 32kg in Business Class. Before the flight passengers will be given the opportunity to pre-select seats and check-in online or via their mobile phones. On-board, passengers will be treated to drinks and meals.

Ken O’Toole, Chief Commercial Officer for Manchester Airports Group (M.A.G) said: “TAP Portugal is one of our newest airlines and it is great news to have them go to a daily service. This will not only give passengers access to Portugal’s capital city but TAP are also one of the largest carriers of passengers to South America from Europe and that opens even more destinations to our customer base in the North West.”

The new service has enabled TAP Portugal to extend its flights offerings from other UK departure points to long haul destinations including Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, New York and Miami. The additional departures also spell good news for people living in Portugal who wish to return home frequently to visit loved ones or have their friends and family come out to visit them.
