Organisers of the French property Exhibition in Harrogate this month have offered the winner of a competition a free ride across the channel to check out some possible prospects for themselves.

A return ferry trip for four passengers and a car is the prize awaiting the winners of a free competition that visitors to the show, held at the Yorkshire Event Centre from May 15th to 17th, will be able to enter.

The organisers of the event stated that France currently offers prospects that are "better now than they have been for years", with a buyer’s market emerging and vendors realising they have to be "realistic" about how much they want to charge in order to achieve a sale.

Owners of French property who rent them out to tourists on a self-catering basis may find they have plenty of custom from those on a budget.

A spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators said such accommodation and the ability of holidaymakers to save money through buying their own food is a "big attraction" when going to France.
