French property owners with a passion for horse racing will have a chance to experience a major event later this month.

The Great Paris Steeplechase takes place on Sunday May 24th at the Hippodrome d’Auteuil in Paris.

Runners are presented with a total of 23 fences over the 5,800 metres of the course and spectators can witness the action for just €8 (£7.12), while children under the age of 18 are admitted free.

According to Whatsonwhen, the race itself was first staged in 1874 and was known as the Grand National of France.

Since then it has become the premier event in the French racing calendar, thanks in part to the severity of the course but also because of the more than €324,000 prize purse on offer to the winner.

Those who have bought French property in the Lower Normandy region can visit Deauville-La Touques in August, when the course will be launching its summer meeting.
