There has reportedly been a soar in demand for restoration projects abroad. Overseas buyers are looking to build their ‘dream home’ which has meant that demand has risen by 15%.

In previous years, it has been Italy and France which saw the highest number of renovations, but rural Spain is now a focus for those looking for a new life abroad. A farmhouse in rural Spain can cost up to three times less than a property in Provence or Tuscany.

Now, Brits are opting for renovation projects in popular towns such as Alicante, Andalucia, Murcia and Almeira, which sees properties in need of work sell for next to nothing. An agent from a Spanish estate agency commented, “In the most popular areas, particularly the vicinity of the coastline, fincas for reform sell for as much as £500,000, but in more remote parts you can pay less than £80,000.”

She continued, “And despite the rural locations, infrastructure is improving dramatically with new motorways and rail routes already in process across the countryside.”
