Owners of second homes on the popular Greek Island of Crete will welcome the launch of a new air route there from Luton next year.

For summer 2012 and kicking off on April 21, Easyjet will run a weekly service to city of Heraklion in the centre of Crete’s northern coastline. The low-cost carrier already has flights there from Bristol, London Gatwick and Manchester.

Crete’s affordable property and low cost of living continue to attract holiday homeowners, as well as expats looking for a sunny and friendly place to live. One area especially popular with British buyers is Chania, west of Heraklion, and specifically around the town of Vamos. Here, properties within traditional villages that are still close to the beach, including Almyrida, Kalyves, Gavalohori, Kokkino Horio, Plaka, Kefalas and Georgioupolis are sought after.
