Inspiration Wednesday – Cleethorpes

cleethorpesOur #InspirationWednesday is Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. A small, friendly seaside town on the south of the Humber Estuary, it started out with fishing as a main industry, before heading more towards tourism in the 19th century.

With community spirit high on the agenda, Cleethorpes is a fun place to live, especially during summer, with plenty of festivals and carnivals to keep you busy. Check out the Fake Festival at Meridian Park, the Blues, Rhythm and Rock Festival, Armed Forces Weekend (with the Red Arrows), the Jazz Festival, Cleethorpes Carnival, Grimsby Pride and an Elvis appreciation festival!

If you fancy living on the edge, have a go at the various watersports (banana boats, kite surfing etc) out on the estuary. Looking for something a little calmer? Polish off your clubs and head to Cleethorpes Golf Club. Or if you fancy exploring the local area, wander down the sea front and take the steam train up to ‘The Fitties’ – a small community of quirky chalets which the residents have made their own!

Whether you fancy Afternoon Tea or something a bit stronger, there are loads of quaint cafés, pubs and bars around the town centre – or visit the apparent ‘World’s Smallest Pub’ (Signal Box Inn) which sits along the steam train’s route. A lovely area in which to bring up a family, Cleethorpes offers much more than just a sea view!
