So, last week we announced the happiest places to live in Great Britain, taken from our ‘Happy At Home’ survey, so now we’d love to take you on a whistle stop tour through the top five. From house prices to what attribute that area ranked highest for, find out which of these areas would work for you!

5th place: Lytham St Annes  

Sat along the beautiful Lancashire coast is the town of Lytham St Annes. The seaside resort is renowned for its golf – with one of its courses a regular host course for the Open Championship. With many community events throughout the year and close proximity to large cities and transport links, living in Lytham St Annes is a homely but convenient location, so it’s no wonder the residents are happy!

What it’s best for? Residents felt they had a strong sense of belonging.

4th place: Hertford

The county town of Hertfordshire, Hertford is a beautiful market town just 20 miles north of London. Dating back to the 10th Century, the area was home to royalty many times over the years, and Hertford Castle, originally built by the Normans still has a gatehouse from the original building.

What it’s best for? Local people felt they could be themselves.

3rd place: Harrogate

Our winner for the last three years, it’s no surprise that Harrogate consistently scores high, with its beautiful scenic views, friendly hub of community life and its fantastic reputation nationally, for local businesses, such as Bettys Tea Room! The Spa town also sits within touching distance of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – making this a buzzing and beautiful place to live.

What it’s best for? Residents said they had good access to nature and green spaces.

2nd place: Troon

A small seaside town in Ayrshire, Scotland, second place went to the pretty and peaceful Troon. The town offers everything you’d expect from seaside living, and more – sandy beaches, views over towards the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig and a busy harbour and fish market. As Lytham St Annes, the town is famous for its golf courses, also used for the Open Championship.

What it’s best for? Came top for people feeling safe in their local area.

1st place: Leigh on Sea

Last but not least, our winner for 2016 is the beautiful seaside town of Leigh on Sea in Essex! This town seems to have it all – sea views, a thriving community event calendar and a commutable location to London. It’s no surprise that Leigh on Sea took gold, with the locals having nothing but good stuff to say about the town in our video here. Well done Essex!

What it’s best for? Residents felt they had great access to sports and recreation facilities, arts and culture, local amenities and the opportunity to develop skills.
