Top tips for buyers in a busy property market

Are you searching for your next home right now? There’s a record number of people looking to move at the moment, with family homes at the top of many buyers’ wish-lists.

The good news is that in the past two months we’re now seeing more homes coming up for sale.

But if you’re looking to buy a home, you’ll still need to be ready to move fast.

Here are five things you can do now to make sure you’re in the best position to buy when you find your perfect property.

Search on Rightmove

Of course we would say that, but you can be sure that you will be viewing more homes for sale at any time than on any other property website. This means you will stay on top of what is available in your ideal location, putting you in the best position to judge that you have found the one.

Sign up for our Instant Property Alerts

Have you signed up for our Instant Property Alerts? We take the hard work out of your home search by emailing you as soon as a new property that matches your search criteria is listed on Rightmove. You will also receive an alert if one of those properties has had a price reduction.

Apply for a mortgage in principle – even if you haven’t found ‘the one’ yet

If you’re ready to buy, but you haven’t got a mortgage agreed in principle yet, you’ll save valuable time by starting this process now.

If you find your dream home you will want to make an offer. The first two things your estate agent will ask at this stage is if you have a mortgage in principle, and if you have proof of funds ready to pay the deposit.

Get started by confirming your budget. You can check our affordability calculators here.

Find a solicitor

Do you have a solicitor ready to go to help you with conveyancing? Valuable time can be lost once your offer has been accepted if you still need to find someone to help you to get the documentation for the sale completed.

You can easily do this research now, which will also show the estate agent you are a serious buyer.

If you have to sell your home to move, instruct an estate agent now

If you have a property to sell, contact your local estate agent now about getting it listed for sale on Rightmove. You’ll be in a much stronger position as a buyer if you are in the process of selling your home, or have already accepted an offer.

Remember, as soon as your home is listed on our site, every buyer interested in your area will receive an Instant Alert to view your property. You can’t get things moving faster than that.

Here are our top tips for getting your home ready to sell.
