“All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small” – A favourite amongst children, this well-loved hymn is popular around the country. Now the house that inspired it all is up for sale!
Llanwenarth House has been put on the market for £2.25million boasting 7 bedrooms and set in 6 acres of lush Welsh countryside. The Elizabethan country estate is said to have been the inspiration for the popular hymn written by Cecil Alexander. It’s believed that the Irish poet composed the 1848 hymn whilst she was a guest at the house.
Built in 1532 and situated in the beautiful Usk Valley in the Monmouthshire countryside, it’s clear how the ivy-covered estate could have inspired such lines as “the purple-headed mountain” and “the river running by”. The current owner said of the property: “In so many ways I feel very privileged to own this place. This is a lovely setting with some very old trees. I love the glorious green views from the house, across the gardens and beyond. I still enjoy the presence of the canal at the bottom.”
