What’s the most popular village in the UK?

Our data scientists have been looking for the most sought-after village in the UK and we can now reveal that Chacewater in Cornwall is the most popular village among buyers in the UK.

We crowned the quaint south west village – which is five miles east of Truro – the most desirable village in the UK based on the number of views per property for sale.

The average asking price of property in Chacewater is £259,273, while the national average asking price is £320,265.

Chacewater is a great place to settle down if you’re a water sports enthusiasts as the beach is only a 15 minute drive away, while the market town of Redruth is three miles west.

The other locations making up the top five most popular villages included Bothwell in South Lanarkshire, Wembury in Devon, Dore in South Yorkshire and Slaithwaite in Kirklees.

Among the UK’s renters, Timperley in Altrincham was found to be the most sought-after village.

This was followed by Heavitree in Exeter, Kingsnorth in Kent, Churchdown in Gloucestershire and Trumpington in Cambridgeshire.

What do the local estate agents say?

Andrew McKnight, managing director at MAP Estate Agents in Cornwall, said: “Chacewater is a great little village with a lot of soul. Arguably it’s best selling point is its location as it’s right on the edge of the city of Truro, but it’s also just a couple of miles from both the north coast and the south coast and all the incredible beaches those places have to offer.

“But it’s also hugely appealing because it’s more of a year-round location, so it’s not crazily busy in the summer or a ghost town in the winter. In that sense, it might have more going for it than a coastal location, and of course, you get more for your money the further inland you go.

“The housing stock is also very varied here, which is great, and there’s a genuine community spirit in Chacewater. It’s a stereotypical Cornish village in that sense, and it’s got pubs and a fish and chip shop so what more could you need.”

Rob Macklin, director at Ian Macklin & Co, which has a branch in Timperley, added: “Timperley has always been a desirable place to live, and its schools have always been a major draw for parents. There are six primary schools which are absolutely brilliant and they’re all within a five-mile radius.

“You don’t really get that anywhere else. It’s a great place to live for young families, the main types of homes are 1930s semis that have usually been extended and renovated. The surrounding villages are very high-end, we’re talking Premier League footballer territory, so it’s benefitted from the overspill of those places which has led to lots of development and high demand.

“Its proximity to Manchester also makes it hugely appealing for renters, and there are new-build developments in the pipeline and offices being converted to apartments, too. In general it’s got a lovely family feel, but it’s surrounded by vibrant areas with lots going on.”
