Rightmove iPhone app reaches 1 million downloads!

Rightmove are celebrating the landmark achievement of reaching 1 million downloads for its iPhone app.

The app was launched in August 2009 and has gone on to some win major consumer prizes including the Revolution Magazine award for best use of mobile, and was even chosen to feature in Apple’s own television advertising campaign for the iPhone.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside comments: “This is a huge milestone for us and shows what a major part mobile now plays in home-hunting. People want to be able to search for properties wherever they may be, and through our iPhone app, iPad app and mobile website they now can.”

The free to download Rightmove iPhone app displays all properties for sale and rent from the Rightmove site, using GPS positioning to locate a users’ exact position and map available properties around them in their local area.

Shipside adds: “We have seen some interesting new patterns of consumer behaviour within the property search process thanks to the introduction of the iPhone app. We often hear stories such as buyers finding themselves in an unfamiliar area that they like the look of and turning to their Rightmove app to map out the latest prices around them, or people seeing a home for sale and immediately being able to bring up its price and phone the agent. Home-hunting with Rightmove has become truly mobile.”

Rightmove’s iPad app, launched in May, also received a boost following the Christmas market and has now been downloaded over 100,000 times.
