How a short let could help keep your home move on track

You might know Rightmove as the place with the largest choice of properties for sale and to rent in the UK. But did you know you can also find short-term rentals?

There are many reasons why someone might want to move into a property on a short-term basis. This could be due to work commitments, or renovations that mean they can’t live in their property for a period of time. Plus, some movers might be in need of a place to live while they wait for a property purchase to complete.

Who are short lets for?

Hopefully, if you’re buying or selling a home right now, the process is running smoothly, and you’re on track to complete your sale or purchase to a date that works for everyone – particularly if you’re in a property chain. But we know that, at the moment, it’s taking seven months on average for home purchases to complete, with long chains and delays in the conveyancing process.

Adding to the already costly process of moving might mean a short let isn’t an option, but, it could be something you want to consider if it would keep your home-move on track. So if you’ve had a moving curveball come your way and are looking for solutions, a short-term let could be an option for you.

A short let could be right for you if:

  • You need to move out of your current home while you wait for your property purchase to complete (such as if you were renting, and your tenancy had come to an end)
  • You’ve accepted an offer on your home and want to get on with your sale, but haven’t found the right home to buy yet
  • You need somewhere to live for between 1 and 6 months
  • You need a furnished property/bills included
  • You’ve already got the keys to your new home, but you’ll be living elsewhere while you do renovations

What short lets aren’t:

Short lets aren’t ‘holiday lets’, that you might book for a number of days, or a couple of weeks at a time.

What kind of short let properties are available at the moment?

Maybe you’ve found your dream home on Rightmove, but to make that move a reality, you need a bit of a stopgap. If that sounds like you, take a look at some of the short lets currently available on Rightmove.
