Background: I'm a dairy farmer's son from North Shropshire, my elder brother still runs the family farm, so the rural life has always been in my blood, however I was never cut out to milk cows 7 days a week so I thought being a rural chartered surveyor and auctioneer was the next best thing. I studied Rural Land Management at the University of Reading and having trained and practised in East Yorkshire and Cheshire, I moved to Lancashire in 1999, becoming a Partner in Armitstead Barnett in 2002. I have been a Member of the RICS since 1997 and Fellow of the CAAV since 1998. I was President of the Lancashire Association of Agricultural Valuers in 2012 and have recently been appointed as a CAAV examiner.

My Role: I manage the Rural Professional side of the business representing and acting for a large number of individual farmer clients and landowners. I am also involved in both agricultural and rural property sectors, from selling small parcels of land to complete Farms. My days are generally spent undertaking valuations for a wide variety of uses, compensation claims for pipeline and utilities, Renewable Energy advice, Agricultural tenancy matters, range of rural property matters, plus dealing with the usual office management and financial matters. I am also an appointed auctioneer for Brockholes Arms Auction Mart on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings selling Clean, Store and Dairy Cattle and Barren Cows. I also conduct On Farm Dispersal sales throughout the year
