Nearby Shaftesbury is renowned for its community spirit, independent shops, charming cafes, regular markets, and pubs. Other amenities include a vibrant arts centre, cinema, supermarkets, a cottage hospital, and a post office. Shaftesbury is also famed for the iconic cobbled street of Gold Hill. In nearby Gillingham there is a Waitrose and a number of other shops and amenities.

Local road connections are excellent providing access to Bath to the East, Gillingham, Salisbury, Sherborne, and Warminster. A303 links with the M3 provide access to London approx. 11 miles. Railway stations at Gillingham (4.5 miles) and Tisbury (11.8 miles) provide mainline services to London (Waterloo). There are several independent and state schools in the area including Stour Provost, Shaftesbury, Motcombe and Port Regis.
