Once you've found your perfect property in France, there remains the question of how best to reach it – a subject car hire company Europcar has been investigating recently.
The firm claims that almost a million UK holidaymakers have missed their flight in the past due to an issue related to their journey to the airport.
Problems include having to turn back for a forgotten item, anxiety about having left something behind, taxi problems and delayed trains and coaches.
In fact, travel plans cause "pre-holiday tension" for very nearly one in four UK holidaymakers, according to the survey.
Europcar's own solution to the problem is Airport Connect, where a hire car is brought to the traveller's home at a pre-arranged time.
Alternatively, property in France could be reached by Eurostar, removing the need to fly at all and providing onward connections to Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, as well as further stations in France itself.
