An unlikely hero is set to be celebrated in Aquitaine this month, which could come as a surprise to people heading to property in France around the end of August.
On August 27th-29th, people heading to property in France's Aquitaine town of Agen, capital of the Lot-et-Garonne department, could encounter a grand-scale celebration of prunes.
The Grand Pruneau Show takes place each year, attracting around 50,000 visitors to the area.
A plum oven bakes the fruit into fresh prunes in the town centre, allowing everyone to taste what has become a certified regional delicacy.
Meanwhile, entertainment is laid on in the form of free live performances from acts such as Superbus and Alpha Blondy.
In mid-September, a further event takes place dedicated to the history of prunes in the Aquitaine region.
The region's tourism authority explains that the Foire aux Pruneaux in Saint-Aubin is to stage its 25th incarnation on September 11th and 12th.
