Reaching property in France and further afield could be achieved by passing through ParisTravellers trying to reach property in France may want to go via Paris in order to make the most of its rail links.

Amanda Monroe, media relations manager at Rail Europe, points out that the city does not have to represent the end of the line.

Instead, property in France's high-profile southern holiday hotspots can be reached by rail for little more than £20.

The city is not only a waypoint along the route to other French destinations; it can also link holidaymakers through to other European countries.

Among them is Switzerland, with one-way fares for less than £19, Ms Monroe says.

When winter truly arrives, Germany is a further possible destination to reach by rail, with Christmas markets in Munich and Maastricht, or in Strasbourg back in France.

"Autumn and early winter are great times to take a city break in Europe. City centres are quieter now that the summer crowds have left," Ms Monroe concludes.
