People flying to property in France from Heathrow can uphold their environmental commitmentsPassengers making the short hop from Heathrow Airport to property in France can do so knowing that the facility is having less of an impact on the environment than in previous years.

Low-energy lighting, recycling and effective management of heating, cooling and ventilation have all helped to reduce the carbon emissions of the airport's terminals since 2007.

This makes for a 12 per cent cut in carbon per pound of income earned by the facility – and has earned it the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of its efforts.

As well as cutting the carbon footprint of its terminals, Heathrow Airport's environmental impact due to flights may have dropped in real terms over the past year.

With an increase in seat capacity of 8.3 per cent in the year to August 2010, Heathrow ferried 10.4 per cent more people to property in France and other European destinations.

This indicates an increase in how full each flight was, with a corresponding reduction in each passenger's carbon footprint.
