An Algarve property development has won two awards in recognition of its sustainable approach.

The AlmaVerde Village & Spa eco resort has picked up the Homes Overseas gold award for best sustainable development and the silver for the best Portuguese development.

Commenting on the accolades, director of architecture Jes Mainwaring said: "We are thrilled to accept these awards. They are a tribute to our continuing commitment to low impact and end-to-end sustainability."

Judge for the awards Natalia Gameson commented that the development was a "blueprint" for others to follow and remarked that it is "refreshing" to see that Algarve property is focused on its role in meeting Portugal’s environmental targets.

Such recognition may encourage more eco-property development in the region, which could bolster green tourism and thus boost the overall Algarve property market.

Earlier this month David Bryce of Golf International said the region has much more to offer than just its major draw of golf tourism.

High quality food, culture, architecture and scenery were four of the attributes he highlighted.
