Northerners take the most rigorous approach to packing for holidays in property in FranceA north-south divide apparently exists when it comes to packing for trips to property in France and other international destinations.

Londoners may be disappointed to hear that they typically rank worst for leaving packing to the last minute and still forgetting the most items, according to research from travelsupermarket.com.

More than two-thirds (67 per cent) of residents of the capital wait until less than 48 hours before departure to decide what to take with them to property in France and other global holiday hotspots.

This is more than any other UK region – and with 42 per cent of Londoners having bought items abroad to replace those they forgot to pack, the city also ranks top of the list for absent-mindedness.

Meanwhile, northerners fare better on the survey, with the north-east the most organised region in the country.

The travel comparison site suggests a ruthless approach to packing – including deliberately leaving non-essential items behind and buying them at the destination if they turn out to be needed.
