Description

Wandering into the California-style house on Chase Avenue for the very first time, visitors never fail to be awe-struck. The generous, detached home has an abundance of wow features, from its opulent floors and walls to its incredible interior spaces. “We bought the house 10 years ago when it was about 80 per cent finished,” explains the current owner. “The owner at that time had only lived in it for a few weeks but had employed a London architect to work on it. It had the most beautiful marble and granite throughout, including a semi-precious, single piece of Venetian marble on the staircase and floor-to-ceiling marble in the bathroom. We loved the way it looked and were only too happy to move in and enhance it with a few changes of our own.”

LEAFY LIVING

Set in a good-sized garden at Walton Park, the five-bedroom house is just a few minutes from picturesque Caldecotte Lake. It is also in a great location for getting into central Milton Keynes and travelling to other parts of the country. “This is one of the few places with a lovely, wide, tree-lined road in the whole of Milton Keynes,” he suggests. “We can step straight out of here to go for walks by the lake or out into the countryside and yet we have very easy access to the M1 and Luton Airport, which is ideal if you need to travel for work.” He adds: “The location of the house was perfect for us and we also loved its large rooms, especially the huge drawing room, and the bedrooms, which were all double in size.”

OUTDOOR LIVING

Since moving in, the owners have created a sauna at ground-floor level, decorated the whole house using high-quality wallpaper and had the kitchen dining room finished in an exquisite, hand-cut slate. The generous driveway has been block-paved and the garden has been landscaped. “The garden is now a wonderful place for entertaining and relaxing in the summer months,” he explains. “There is plenty of space for children to play out on the lawn, as well as to host barbecues on the terrace and to have a hot tub."

AMAZING SPACE

The impressive property, which has some characterful, arched windows, is entered via a reception hall which leads to a study. This room was originally created with the idea of being a downstairs bedroom and with some reconfiguring of the layout – and subject to any relevant planning permissions – it could well be possible to create self-contained annexe-style accommodation within this section of the house. Double doors from the hall open into the magnificent drawing room. This capacious room, with its resplendent marble floor, is very much the heart of the home and has ample space for different areas of comfortable seating, as well as formal dining furniture, should that suit new owners. “This is the perfect place to entertain at Christmas and Easter and to host large parties at other times,” the owner admits.

SAUNA RELAXATION

From here, there is access to the ground-floor shower room and sauna, as well as to the kitchen dining room. Both the kitchen dining room and the drawing room can be opened up on to the garden to create comfortable indoor-outdoor living on sunny days. The enormous garage, which can be accessed from the kitchen, is integral to the house and offers ample space for parking as well as storage. New owners could also find there is scope to use this useful space for other purposes.

TRULY UNIQUE

All the bedrooms are on the first floor of the house, fanning off from a light-filled galleried landing. “The master suite is particularly nice,” he agrees. “This includes a large bedroom with doors on to a balcony that overlooks the garden. It is really nice to open these up on summer mornings.” The marbled en suite bathroom, with its spa bath, is huge and there is access to plenty of storage. The other four bedrooms also have good storage. Two of these rooms are dual aspect, also ensuring they are filled with natural light. The family bathroom also has a luxurious finish. The owners have appreciated the calm ambience of the house and admit they will miss its tranquillity when they leave. “This has been an extremely quiet place to live. We have very nice neighbours and it always feels an incredibly safe and friendly place to be,” he adds. “The house itself has been a truly unique place to live.”
