The site is located in the small village of Wetwang, which is an historic settlement in the Yorkshire Wolds, forming part of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Wetwang is approximately 6 miles west of the market town of Driffield and 22 miles east of the city of York.

According to the 2011 Census, Wetwang had a population of 761, which is comprised of families, retirees and commuters. The village benefits from two public houses called the Black Swan and Victoria Inn. There is also a Wetwang Church of England Primary School. Nearby Driffield provides a larger range of services and amenities, including a railway station that links with York, as well as a Tesco supermarket and good selection of shops and services.
